Bringing the Rosary to the World Through Social Media
A Faithful Response to Modern Challenges
The outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 presented unprecedented challenges to many aspects of life, including the practice of our Catholic faith. With churches closed and Masses suspended, the faithful were left yearning for spiritual nourishment and connection.
Rev. Fr. David Obeng Paintsil, recognizing this profound need, sought innovative ways to reach out to his parishioners and Catholics worldwide. Leveraging the power of social media, he began to pray the Holy Rosary and celebrate Mass live on Facebook, providing a virtual space for believers to gather, pray, and find solace during uncertain times.
Continuing the Mission Beyond the Pandemic
As restrictions eased and churches reopened, Fr. Paintsil encouraged the faithful to return to in-person Mass to fully participate in the communal worship and receive the Eucharist. However, he felt a strong calling to continue the live-streamed Rosary prayers, especially during the months of May and October, traditionally dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In 2021 and 2022, this practice continued, and following prayer and reflection after October 2022, Fr. Paintsil discerned that the Lord was calling him to maintain the daily Rosary prayers online indefinitely.
